We asked the PM to speak up for human rights in China

Thanks to everyone who called on the UK Prime Minister to speak up for Human Rights while in China

Thank you for taking action to call on the Prime Minister to speak up for Human Rights while in China. Amnesty International  UK welcomes the comments from the Prime Minister regarding extending media freedom in China but we were disappointed that the PM did not take the opportunity to be stronger and more public in his support of human rights activists’ harassed or detained by the Chinese authorities.

We strongly believe that the PM's failure to send an unequivocal message that he supports human rights for the Chinese people only gives the impression that it was acceptable for a government to host the Olympic Games in an atmosphere of repression and persecution.

AIUK will continue to take action for Chinese human rights defenders and the positive development of human rights in China.
