Digg Binyam Out of Gitmo

Use Digg to gain awareness for the plight of Binyam Mohamed - a desperately ill man who needs to be moved to a safer part of Guantanamo Bay

Binyam Mohamed is an Ethiopian national and UK resident, rendered in 2002, allegedly seriously tortured in Morocco and now detained for nearly four years without trial at Guantánamo Bay.

He is barely eating or not eating at all and only accepted a small amount of food in order to avoid being tube fed by force and then being unable to see his lawyer. His lawyer believes that he will stop eating at all after her last recent visit.

Binyam has written to Gordon Brown and requested his assistance, it is noted that representations have been made for Binyam's transfer back to the UK by the UK government  but that the US has refused them.

Binyam has expressed suicidal ideation, is reported by his lawyer to be severely depressed and on the verge of a full nervous breakdown.  Binyam's case has been put forward for hearing at the military Commissions, he is awaiting a decision on this.

Binyam's lawyer has put Guantanamo authorities on notice of the extremely serious risk to Binyam if he is to remain in Camp 5 including the risk that he will attempt suicide.  We are using Digg to push his case up the news agenda. Digg is a free to join social bookmarking tool that lets you get the word out there about news items.
