In 2007 activists took part in mass anti-government protests that were brought to an end in a violent crackdown by the military junta. Some remain in prison.
In March 1988 a courageous group of Burmese students built a peaceful pro-democracy movement that spread across the country. The government responded with ferocity - killing and imprisoning thousands of people.
Seventeen years later, inspired by the ideals of these protests, the '88 Generation Students group was formed. Members of this group took part in the 2007 protests and are now facing many years in prison.
The authorities in Burma regularly justify the imprisonment of hundreds of people on the basis that they were seeking to cause "unrest."
These prisoners receive long prison sentences, like 88 Generation student group members Htay Kywe and Mie Mie who were sentenced to 65 years in prison and Zaw Htet Ko Ko who received an 11-year sentence. They are also denied medical treatment.
Join us and let Burma know that this isn't acceptable and that you're fighting for prisoners of conscience. Write a letter now to ensure the release of Htay Kywe, Mie Mie and Zaw Thet Ko Ko.
