250,000 civilians have been displaced by civil war and now face a life without security, food, clean water and medical care.
Amnesty also continues to receive reports of widespread and serious human rights violations, including enforced disappearance, extra-judicial executions, torture and other ill-treatment, forced recruitment by paramilitary groups, and sexual violence.
Now the fighting has subsided it becomes vitally important to ensure international organisations such as the UN are allowed into the area, to provide aid and monitor the humanitarian situation in Sri Lanka.
Send an email to the Sri Lankan authorities now to ensure that this access is granted and that they conform to international human rights laws.
