The Deep Sea settlement is a shanty-town in Nairobi. Its 7,000 residents live under constant threat of illegal forced eviction.
Everyone has a right to a home, to security, and to sanitation but the reality for the thousands of people living in the Deep Sea settlement couldn't be further from this.
They live in small, temporary dwellings made of scrap metal, canvas and plastic, under constant threat from forced evictions at the hands of private companies.
The settlement has no electricity, hardly any fresh water and no refuse collection. Roads are non-existent. Worst of all, it has no sewage system. Health problems are rife.
Take the time to write a letter now and call for forced evictions to be stopped, and for affordable and decent housing to be built.
