A pregnant British woman is facing trial and possibly the death penalty in Laos next week after being arrested on drug trafficking charges. The woman's MP, Harriet Harman, the leader of the House of Commons, has made representations on her behalf and the Foreign Office has been urged to intervene.
Samantha Orobator, 20, was arrested at Wattay airport, Vientiane, in August last year, in possession of 0.6kg (about one and a half pounds) of heroin. According to the human rights group, Reprieve, she has not had access to a lawyer and the British government only became aware of her detention several months after her arrest.

however she is now in Holloway prison and obviously not under sentence of death which should be mentioned on this page
There are 5 very good reasons to get this case reviewed as follows:
1. She may very well not be guilty of the crime alleged. There are grounds for reasonable doubt on this.
2. She has been subject to a certain amount of abuse in prison possibly leading to her current pregnancy.
3. The unborn child has not committed any crime.
4. She has not had any access to legal representation.
5. If an execution sentence is carried out, then there will be no way back. Nothing that could ever be paid as recompense will ever bring her or her child back.
