  • I would ask everyone in the UK with an interest in human rights to take the Engish Defence League very seriously. I come across EDL references on Twitter quite regularly. Recently one user, who has been masquerading as a legitimate veterans' organisation, has been uncovered after targeting a blind veteran by making threats. This user has followers that include @englishpatriots whose profile has a link to an EDL page on Ning. I contacted Ning when I realised this to express my concerns but the page is still up. Perhaps they don't want to turn away a paying customer. One of the things I find most offensive about the EDL is that they claim to support women's rights by criticising the wearing of veils and head coverings for religious reasons when they have absolutely no interest at all in these things. They are purely out to exaggerate public fears about anything that seems foreign and different. If you are on Twitter take a look at usernames that include "offa", "english", "stgeorge", "british". They sometimes refer to "The Cause". Be aware of your own safety and don't challenge them if you are using your real name.
