I hear there will be two groovy events in East London.
On the 17th get on down to The Haggerston pub for an Amnesty juke box- pay £1 to get your record played, in association with Oxfam so buy a record at the Dalston shop first!
On the 18th The George Tavern is hosting a similar event, but there'll also be live jazz, a bbq, live bands, crazy dancing and more.

Over in Wales the Cardigan and North Pems AI group is having their 3rd "Making a Song and Dance of it" event featuring music, poetry, jiving and pictures on sale by a local artist.

Party Animal is very impressed :)

Last year the Woolacombe Boardriders Club organised a themed party in their local pub - 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly'. The costumes were brilliant - from Amy Winehouse, to pregnant nuns! They raised lots of money as they had managed to bargain amazing deals for the drink, and had an auction of prizes donated by loacl companies, including well known local artists.

I have heard from people that had protect the human week parties last year that raffles are a great addition to parties- you can raise plenty of money for Amnesty that way!

As they say, one person's trash is another person's treasure. That in itself could be the themed party, where everyone goes home with something new, and having raised lots of dosh for Amnesty in the process- a win win situation!

I've got quite a sweet tooth, so I would opt for a cake party! Either making cakes and selling slices of them to friends and family or getting everyone together to bake some. You could set up a street stall and have collecting tins..

What about a fundraising dinner party for friends. Think about how much people pay to go out for dinner, especially if they're drinking wine! You could charge £25-£30 per person for food and drink. If you had 8 people gathered around your table this could raise over £200! To raise extra money you could get crafty and make them a little something to take home with them, asking for donations for your crafty skills!

What sort of event works best may depend on things like your budget, social circle or age group you are targetting but really anything can be successful with the right amount of planning and enthusiasm.. I know I love cake sales, as plenty of people can be involved baking their fav sorts. Asking people to donate rather than charging fees (for entrance/cake/tickets) can result in people being more generous!
