US 'names secret terror suspects'
with the furore and disgust of Vietnam US POWs being held, the US then do the same. Now at least...

So the paragraph says "some Security Services officials appear to have a dubious record relating to actual involvement, and frankness about any such involvement". in other words they were most likely complicit in torture. What happens now? Prosecution?
You'd hope the responsibility for torture will go higher than the agents who were actually involved.

View all comments (7 more)I'm pleased Binyam Mohamed is now finally back in the UK. I did a great deal of campaigning on this case. I along with many, I campaigned through Amnesty and used many other tactics. We achieved something the end, but the ideology that criminality can under go some mythical metamorphosis into patriotism and justice remains. This situation put everyone in danger, once any governmental institution, allows criminality things run out of control.
congratulations to amnesty international. As binyamin said, neither the remaining detainees nor the people responsible for their detention without trial should ever be forgotten. This has been one of the darkest chapters of the twentieth century and the so called american democracy!! shame shame
Thankyou for putting the link to the Guardian statement on here.
I had been very concerned about Binyam's return - that he would be full of 'vengeance'. But he writes clearly and compassionately, and I do hope that when he has recovered (if that ever happens after such an ordeal) he can demonstrate how to move beyond revenge, within oneself.
I am very proud for him to have come to such an evolved state.

The lies and deceit of the British government on torture and rendition should be exposed, and the guilty individuals should be brought to justice. But it probably will not happen. Our despicable leaders will get away with yet another crime against humanity.
Last month I attended a talk by ex-detainee Moazzam Begg, in which we were given details of his years at Guantanamo and the circumstances under which he was placed there.
The US government, aided by our own (British), has been detaining people with an absolute lack of regard for human rights laws and its own constitution. Innocent people are being rendered, detained and TORTURED under these "terror" investigations when it is clear (and known to all) that they have no connection with terrorism.
It makes me feel physically sick to hear America referred to as the "Land of Freedom" and as her lapdog/playground suckup, Britain is equally accountable.
It is good to see that there are intelligent American lawyers on the case, but each one of us needs to make a stand in every way possible against this kind of disgusting disregard for humanity!
Watch "Taxi to the Dark Side" for more details from Moazzam Begg and others.
Even though we know so much of this, it is still utterly devastating to hear it all again from this wonderful lawyer. I would like to express my thanks to her and all the other lawyers involved with Guantanamo for sticking out their necks to help so many others
less han a week before repatriation? Is that right?
