Moscow authorities ban Gay Pride

Moscow’s Deputy Mayor told the event organiser, Nikolai Alekseyev, and confirmed to Amnesty International, that his application to hold the event had been rejected due to the large number of objections it had received from members of the public.

In October 2010, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that Russia had violated the right to freedom of assembly of activists seeking to hold pride events in Moscow in recent years.

It is my observation that the world is suffering from not living to its highest potential.

We still have racism sexism homophobia and all other forms of ignorance. That ignorance unfortunately permeates nearly every culture in the so-called “developed” countries.

Until we understand how this ignorance comes about then it is possible that we will not able to make a different choice about it.

I think I have one possible explanation of how this ignorance comes about and stays in our culture. It’s not the one and only right explanation, but it is something that I have thought about and I would like to offer it forward for you to think about.

Iranian teenager faces execution for 'false' gay assault charges

An 18-year-old Iranian man is facing execution over a false sodomy charge, campaigners say.

Ebrahim Hamidi was sentenced to death two years ago at the age of 16 for an unspecified assault on another man.

Although the allegation was withdrawn and the Iranian Supreme Court has rejected the guilty verdict and execution order, a lower provincial court is insisting on Mr Hamidi's execution.

Three Iranian men are thought to be facing the death penalty for having homosexual relations.

The men, named as Nemat Safavi, Mehdi P and Moshen G, have been on death row for three years and allegedly committed the crimes while under the age of 18...

A date has not been set for their executions, but according to Human Rights Watch, their lawyers believe it could happen any day.

A court in the Indian capital, Delhi, has ruled that homosexual intercourse between consenting adults is not a criminal act.

The ruling overturns a 148-year-old colonial law which describes a same-sex relationship as an "unnatural offence".

With many other countries having already changed their outdated and discriminatory blood policies – why can Britain, a country which apparently prides itself in its acceptance of diversity, now not do the same? I see there as something wrong when someone, through no choice they have made, is forced to fight in order to be allowed to help another human being..

The partially clothed body of Eudy Simelane, former star of South Africa's acclaimed Banyana Banyana national female football squad, was found in a creek in a park in Kwa Thema, on the outskirts of Johannesburg. Simelane had been gang-raped and brutally beaten before being stabbed 25 times in the face, chest and legs. As well as being one of South Africa's best-known female footballers, Simelane was a voracious equality rights campaigner and one of the first women to live openly as a lesbian in Kwa Thema.

Anti-gay preachers banned from UK

A father and daughter from a US church which preaches hatred of homosexuals have been banned from entering the UK by Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.
Fred Phelps and his daughter Shirley Phelps-Roper from the Westboro Baptist Church had urged protests against a play being put on in Hampshire.
Queen Mary's College in Basingstoke is staging The Laramie Project, a play about a man killed for being gay.
The UK Border Agency said it opposed "extremism in all its forms".

Exit polls for The Associated Press found that Proposition 8 received critical support from black voters who flocked to the polls to support Barack Obama for president. Blacks voted strongly in favor of the ban, while whites narrowly opposed it and Latinos and Asians were split.
On the same day elsewhere, amendments outlawing gay-marriage were approved in Arizona and Florida, and Arkansas voters gave their backing to a measure banning unmarried couples from serving as adoptive or foster parents. Supporters made clear that gays and lesbians were their main target.

According to the chairman of the National Fatwa Council, Abdul Shukor Husin, many young women admire the was men dress and behave, which is a denial of their femininity and a violation of human nature.

"It is unacceptable to see women who love the male lifestyle including dressing in the clothes men wear," he complained, adding, "(Masculine behaviour) becomes clearer when they start to have sex with someone of the same gender, that is woman and woman."

"In view of this," Dr Abdul explained, "the National Fatwa Council which met today have decided and taken the stand that such acts are forbidden and banned."

The successor of the Austrian far-right leader Jörg Haider was dismissed yesterday after he revealed a “special” relationship “far beyond” friendship with his former mentor.
In emotional interviews with the national broadcaster and a tabloid newspaper Stefan Petzner spoke openly about his affair with Haider, who died at the age of 58 in a high-speed car crash after heavy drinking session at a gay club this month.
