it's a good question ....

Let me see, "A mist descends and the group just keep throwing stones until the victim doesn't move anymore." That's murder. Not justice.
I agree with Unicorn27's comments noting that this is also disproportionately used aganst women and also for non violent 'crimes' such as adultery with poor levels of evidence or proof.

Excellent article from Arhundati Roy. It's worth reading to understand what happent in Mumbai and put things into its context. I like the way she puts: 'November isn't September, 2008 isn't 2001, Pakistan isn't Afghanistan and India isn't America. So perhaps we (India) should reclaim our tragedy and pick through the debris with our own brains and our own broken hearts so that we can arrive at our own conclusions.'
Not looked into it yet but I read someplac that the governent of Iran were planning a move to open some form of 'bureau' (is that the right word?) for planned Younger marriages
Hi Dr Pot. Yes, I thought that the confusion of some of the participants was a sort of strength of the programme - showing how they'd compromised themselves for the rest of their lives. It was quite weird to hear (eg the Congolese man talking - like an old-style colonial master - about how "blacks need to be beaten") but still worked I thought. Anyway, I'll blog about it tomorrow. Cheers, N.
