Palestinians Are Living Under Discriminatory Laws

A new report from Human Rights Watch once again clearly, and succinctly, lays forth the discriminatory and downright apartheid laws which the Palestinian people daily have to live under. The 166 page report, entitled Separate and Unequal, describes in detail the “two-tier system of laws, rules and services that Israel operates for the two populations in areas of the West Bank (and East Jerusalem) under its exclusive control, which provide preferential services, development and benefits for Jewish settlers while imposing harsh conditions on Palestinians.”

This time two years ago, Gaza was being bombarded ceaselessly, from land, sea and air, by the forces of an illegal occupying force. Civilians were deliberately targeted along with schools, power stations, and other non-military targets. Overall, the occupying forces managed to kill 1,416 Palestinians, of which 926 were civilians and 255 were police officers....

Report: Chile recognizes independent Palestinian state

Chilean President Sebastian Pinera announced late Thursday that he officially recognizes an independent Palestinian state, the Chinese news agency Xinhua reported on Thursday.

Pinera's announcement is preceded by official recognition of Palestine by other Latin American countries, including Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay.

Amnesty International has told the BBC News website the methods used raised concerns about war crimes.

The Israeli military is investigating a video in which a Palestinian detainee appears to be humiliated by a group of Israeli soldiers.

The video, broadcast by Israeli TV after being posted on YouTube, shows a blindfolded man kneeling near a barrier being forced to repeat Hebrew phrases.

Some refer to the elite Golani infantry brigade. Others are of a sexual nature.

In a statement to the BBC, the Israeli army said it considered the incident "grave", and condemned the behaviour.

"Investigative procedures were opened as soon as the footage was received" from Israeli Channel 10 TV on Thursday, it added.

We were expecting it, but the deafening noise of the first sound bomb still came as a shock. The cry went up, "gas, gas", and blue-white smoke hissed out from a tear gas grenade.

"No violence. No violence," someone shouted. "Hold your hands in the air." But the gesture was not reciprocated. The grenades kept coming, perhaps 20 in all. Fortunately the wind carried most of the gas away across the fields.
