What people are saying about rape

  • Your post had provided me with another point of view on this topic. I had no idea that things can work in this manner as well. Thank you for sharing your perspective.

  • Subjugation of women in whatever extremity and/or by whatever means (cultural, religious, political, socio-economic) - anywhere in world - is wrong. Period.

I see a lot of finger-pointing in instances like these, the so-called "West" here talking about how backward "muslim" countries are with regard to women's rights, yet I see a right-wing agenda in the USA that basically wants to control women's rights. How is that more advanced?

There is no gender equality in plenty of powerful institutions in the so-called "developed nations", the military, church organizations, etc. - women are still discriminated against. Employment policies in the USA still have serious gender disparities making women apply for no credit check loans more often.

My point is for us as a society in general to see a story like this and immediately begin assessing blame and claiming some superiority while the same thing (albeit under different guises) is happening in our own backyards, does nothing to advance the cause of gender equality.

At the end of the day, let's not forget that women are human beings - and women's rights are really - human rights.
