This is Amnesty's annual inter-university fundraising competition, open to all AI student groups and supporters at UK universities.

Please invite everyone in your AI societies to join this group so we can discuss fundraising ideas, post photos and stories of events, and keep track of how other groups are getting on with their fundraising for Amnesty!

How do you convince policy-makers and decison-makers in the education sector that they ought to be mainstreaming human rights education within the school system?

That human rights are so self-evidently "a good thing" that they ought to be fundamental to every child's education?

That States are obliged to promote human rights education as part of their obligations under the Convention on the Rights of the Child and other international human rights treaties?

That human rights education is proving to be an effective means of improving school discipline, reducing bullying and boosting academic performance?

Fortunately, where the basics of surveillance and covert communication are concerned, a lot can be learned from the novels of John le Carré. When spying on a child Islamist it makes good sense, for example, for teachers not to hang around too obviously outside the house where indoctrination is occurring, like the useless pair of spooks in le Carré's admirable new novel, A Most Wanted Man

My friends and I are seriously committed to going out and we are not alone. This is a nation that loves a knees up. So why not encourage people to do something fun they already love doing? Parties are a great way to celebrate the human rights we have and raise money to help others who aren’t able to party (maybe they are on death row, displaced, under house arrest or locked up somewhere). Through Amnesty parties we can draw attention to these issues.
