Tibetan monks 'held after riot'
China aren't making much progress...

South Africa needs to remember its own history.
And there I was thinking it might be because the National Peoples Congress think Oasis are old-school, guitar-wielding plodders...
As Europeans express their support for the Dalai Lama the real test of China's newly gained small steps toward greater freedom will have been passed once prison doors are opened for good, both in China as well as in Tibet. A strong country should be confident to allow for and tolerate a great diversity of different ideas and lifestyles, within and without national borders.
If communication is blocked by ever increasing cycles of fear the manifold problems confronting humanity today can't be solved. Both China and Europe know that however divergent political opinions may be interpreted, sustained confrontation will eventually result in the destruction of both peoples, whereas mediation should offer the greatest chance to achieve lasting results, beneficial not just for China's great, good and poor, but also for the inhabitants of the rest of the world.

View all comments (6 more)China are made up of hardliner politicians, based on communist policies. If China wants to be able to trade freely, they have think about human rights with Tibet and within the Chinese people. Like Malaysia, anyone who voice against the government is a threat to Internal Security and will be imprisoned. The beauty of China is the people, but not the government.
autonomy for Tibet - possible task for Obama? any takers?
I echo DrPot :WHEN THE HELL DID THIS HAPPEN? what on earth happened to the idea of representative democracy- who the hell is he representing with this? aren't the concepts and ideals of self-determination , self-government and religious freedom supposed to be central to our systems of government in the west-isn't that what Iraq was theoretically about?; it's outrageous that these concepts are so easily forgotten for economic expediency
UK = Panopticon Prison - You've got a deep seated issue with the BBC it appears as in many of your comments you slate them, irrespective of the article content.
What justifies your quote "and the bbc actually is standing up for the UK Gov instead of ripping them apart for the support of murder, genocide and totalitarianism, BBC tsk what puppets of propaganda".????
What makes you think the BBC approve and have actively supported this dreadful decision? What statement or phrase or action from their journalists have promoted this recognition of Chinese rule in Tibet? You've clearly watched/heard different BBC reports than I have, because I think they are biased IN FAVOUR of the Tibetan people and their attempted uprisings.
Free speech is a deep seated belief of mine. But with it comes a duty of honesty and responsibility. Anyone can make random quotes and unjustified statements - there's nothing clever about that. Please post links to some evidence to help demonstrate your belief of the wrongness of the BBC, and to show all readers of this website why you are correct and not simply juandiced in opinion.
Can you believe this shit, and the bbc actually is standing up for the UK Gov instead of ripping them apart for the support of murder, genocide and totalitarianism, BBC tsk what puppets of propaganda.
Well the BBC by support the illegal occupation of Palestine by Israel which is mostly pair for by the USA with their free aid, obviously aid = free weapons, over 30 billion dollars worth!
