Where in liverpool were the protests?
I totally agree with you. I always get annoyed when people like Nick Griffin go on about being a native Briton. I think he fails to see that we are an island and that we have constantly had influences and people coming in from abroad and people going out to other parts of the world. I'd like to see his family tree and bloodlines. I know my roots are British, Irish and Scandinavian, but I welcome all to our country who contribute and leave a positive impact.
Thank you for sharing this. It is an encouragement to keep writing
Thank you Amnesty for making it easy for us to do these things.

View all comments (7 more)I am disappointed that Omar only received photocopies of the greetings sent to him. But i am delighted to here how a few simple words of belief and support from genuine people gave Omar comfort and strength. A very worthwhile campaign
Wonderful to see first hand the positive effect the Greetings Cards Campaign can have! Shocked, though, to learn that Omar Deghayes was only given photocopies of the cards and letters sent to him - very cynical.
The early years are the most crucial in a human being's life. Let us make a difference and bring smiles to these children's faces. The festive season is just round the corner.Children have a right to life- read food, shelter, education, health, the list is endless
It was really great to see this clip. I often wondered whether the cards and letters ever reached people - this has renewed my enthusiasm for sending them. Thanks for making it Omar.
Brilliant clip - good to see evidence both of the cards getting through to prisoners of conscience and also that the cards help them - makes me determined to send even more greetings card to prisoners this year
I would ask everyone in the UK with an interest in human rights to take the Engish Defence League very seriously. I come across EDL references on Twitter quite regularly. Recently one user, who has been masquerading as a legitimate veterans' organisation, has been uncovered after targeting a blind veteran by making threats. This user has followers that include @englishpatriots whose profile has a link to an EDL page on Ning. I contacted Ning when I realised this to express my concerns but the page is still up. Perhaps they don't want to turn away a paying customer. One of the things I find most offensive about the EDL is that they claim to support women's rights by criticising the wearing of veils and head coverings for religious reasons when they have absolutely no interest at all in these things. They are purely out to exaggerate public fears about anything that seems foreign and different. If you are on Twitter take a look at usernames that include "offa", "english", "stgeorge", "british". They sometimes refer to "The Cause". Be aware of your own safety and don't challenge them if you are using your real name.
Omar Deghayes on Torture and British Intelligence:
Listen to first hand testimony of former Guantánamo detainee describing his interrogation by British Intelligence agent, "Andrew", and
others (MI5 and MI6) while held illegally in Pakistan, before being
sold into US custody and rendered to Bagram prison in Afghanistan and
subjected to torture.
