WASHINGTON — Following an intensive seven-month investigation, the Army on Wednesday filed 22 additional charges against Pfc. Bradley Manning, accused of illegally downloading tens of thousands of classified U.S. military and State Department documents that were then publicly released by WikiLeaks, military officials tell NBC News.

The most serious of the new charges is "aiding the enemy," a capital offense which carries a potential death sentence.

Online classified ad websites like Craigslist have become the largest marketers of children trafficked into the commercial sex industry. The steady stream of exploited children for sale on Craigslist has had anti-trafficking groups demanding change for years. In the past 12 months, a trafficking survivor whose pimp forced her to advertise for her own statutory rape on Craigslist at age 11 wrote an open letter to Craig Newmark asking him to remove the “adult services” section where she was sold. Cash-strapped nonprofits rejected donations from the Craigslist Foundation as tainted money. A secret video showing US air crew falsely claiming to have encountered a firefight in Baghdad and then laughing at the dead after launching an air strike that killed a dozen people, including two Iraqis working for Reuters news agency, was revealed by Wikileaks today.

The footage of the July 2007 attack was made public in a move that will further anger the Pentagon, which has drawn up a report identifying the whistleblower website as a threat to national security. The US defence department was embarrassed when that confidential report appeared on the Wikileaks site last month alongside a slew of military documents.

US general: Gay Dutch soldiers caused Srebrenica massacre

A senior US officer and former Nato commander sparked outrage in the Netherlands today by declaring that gay soldiers in the Dutch military were one of the reasons for the Srebrenica massacre, the worst act of mass murder in Europe committed since the second world war.

The Dutch government and military responded with anger and contempt after General John Sheehan, a retired marine corps officer who was Nato's supreme commander at the time of the 1995 atrocity, told a US Senate hearing that gay soldiers in the military could result in events like Srebrenica.

Hagai Ben-Artzi, the brother of the Israeli premier's wife, said on Israeli Army Radio that the US president dislikes Netanyahu and the Israeli people because he had spent years in the church of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, who he said is "antisemitic, anti-Israeli, and anti-Jewish." Obama once declared the fiery liberal Chicago preacher was his spiritual mentor but disavowed him during the campaign.

"As a politician running for [the] presidency he had to hide it," Ben-Artzi said, "but it comes out every time and I think we just have to say it plainly: there is an antisemitic president in America."

The US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, todaydemonstrated a new-found steeliness towards Israel by making it clear she was expecting it to back down in the row between the two countries and offer concessions needed for a resumption of Middle East peace talks.

As rock-throwing Palestinians clashed with Israeli forces in Jerusalem in protests dubbed "a day of rage", Clinton sent a double-edged message to Israel.

A senior adviser to former US President George W Bush has defended tough interrogation techniques, saying their use helped prevent terrorist attacks.
In a BBC interview, Karl Rove, who was known as "Bush's brain", said he "was proud we used techniques that broke the will of these terrorists".
He said waterboarding, which simulates drowning, should not be considered torture.
In 2009, President Barack Obama banned waterboarding as a form of torture.

Recently it brought out a report called Terror From the Right, which identifies, in chronological order, the serious home-grown plots, conspiracies and racist rampages that have been cooked up in America since the Oklahoma City bomb in 1995...<snip>....... one name crops up time and time again: Barack Obama.

It was an unseasonably cold day in May 2002 when Charlie Mathis walked into the Houston courtroom. He had been called as a witness for the prosecution, which he found puzzling: he had, after all, spent the last few years working with the woman now sitting in the dock, and felt sure she wasn't physically capable of committing murder – the crime before the court. In fact, if anything, he had expected to appear for the defence, but Mathis says that as he walked past the woman's lawyers, one of them turned to him and commented glibly: "Oh, I guess I should have talked to you some time, shouldn't I?"
It was an early sign that Linda Carty, the woman in the dock, had a difficult road ahead.

Criticism of MI5 that was removed from the ruling on the involvement of the security service in the torture of Binyam Mohamed must be restored to the judgment, the court of appeal ruled today.
The decision is another blow to the government after it lost its attempt earlier this month to cover up MI5's complicity in "cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment" meted out to the British resident Mohamed by the US.
Passages that appeared in the original draft judgment were removed after Jonathan Sumption QC, the government's counsel, claimed the words suggested that MI5's approach undermined assurances given by ministers and that MI5 had "an interest in suppressing information".

The Polish authorities have for the first time admitted their involvement in the CIA's secret programme for the rendition of high-level terrorist suspects from Iraq and Afghanistan, it emerged today.
"It is time for the authorities to provide a full accounting of Poland's role in rendition," Adam Bodnar, of the Warsaw-based Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, said.
"These flight records reinforce the troubling findings of official European inquiries and global human rights groups, showing complicity with CIA abuse across Europe."

Craig, square-jawed and of Irish American stock from Boston, looked like a young Kennedy stranded in Afghanistan. Night had fallen over the shattered compound in Now Zad where we were bedding down.
The company that Craig and I were attached to, Lima, had spent its day blasting its way through an area of abandoned farms believed to be host to dozens of Taliban.

The US contractor Blackwater is operating in Pakistan at a secret CIA airfield used for launching drone attacks, according to a former US official, despite repeated government denials that the company is in the country.
The official, who had direct knowledge of the operation, said that employees with Blackwater, now renamed Xe Services, patrol the area round the Shamsi airbase in Baluchistan province.
He also confirmed that Blackwater employees help to load laser-guided Hellfire missiles on to CIA-operated drones that target al-Qaida members suspected of hiding in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border regions.......

Tony Blair attacked over Iraq war 'justification'

Tony Blair is facing strong criticism after he said he would have gone to war in Iraq even if he had known there were not any weapons of mass destruction.
The former prime minister said it was the "notion" of Saddam as a threat to the region which tilted him in favour of the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
He added that he would have used different arguments to justify the war.
Critics have said Mr Blair misled Parliament and "tailored his arguments to fit the circumstances".
