Guantánamo has now been in operation for 8 years
Terrorism, Security and Human Rights

Omar Khadr is a Canadian national who has been held in Guantanamo since July 2002. When he was first taken into US custody he was 15 years old, in violation of international law and standards. Now, it's time for him to be brought home.

Terrorism is not a new phenomenon but the 'war on terror' is.

While Amnesty acknowledges the right of governments to protect their citizens when they face complex challenges and threats, these measures should never result in the compromise of human rights.

President Obama has ordered the suspension of military trials and the closure of Guantánamo Bay.

These are positive moves and a testament to everyone who has been tirelessly campaigning on these issues for so long. However there is more that needs to be done and we should now call on our own government to full and independently investigate their involvement in abuses.
