My name is Dennis I'm a history student in Northern Ireland and am lucky enough to enjoy education, freedom of speech and pastimes such as reading and golf. I was drawn to Amnesty's work through their sponsored comedy gig at the Queens' Festival in Belfast. But my interest in Soviet history and reading the works of Solzhenitsyn made me realise how lucky i was and how easily rights can be taken away if the country acquieses in its duty to stand up for their rights. This is why I find it reassuring in an age where human rights continue to be abused and efforts are being made in our own country to curb them, that an organisation such as Amnesty exists to fight for human rights.
