Journalist Pablo Pacheco Avila was arrested in 2003 and sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment during a severe crackdown on the dissident movement in Cuba. It is believed his arrest was politically motivated and related to his legitimate journalistic activities and peaceful exercise of his right to freedom of expression and association.
